The Big Picture: Planning for the impacts of climate change on coastal ecosystems and communities may be the greatest challenge facing local decision-makers today. While general awareness and willingness to act to address climate change is increasing, access to locally-relevant data and information is often lacking and solutions remain elusive.
The Details: Our Coast Our Future (OCOF) is a collaborative, user-driven project focused on providing San Francisco Bay Area coastal resource managers and planners with locally-relevant maps and information to help understand, visualize, and anticipate vulnerabilities to sea level rise and storms. OCOF incorporates state of the art modeling of coastal storm hazards and delivers the results through an interactive web-based decision support tool that fits within the existing workflows of end users.
Coravai’s Role: Principal Investigator responsible for ensuring that the needs of end users are met through the downscaled climate change scenarios and decision support tool interface.
Results: This much-anticipated project will be available for the entire San Francisco Bay shoreline in early 2014. A beta version of the tool will be available for the Outer Coast in May 2013.
